Jaan Hatheli Pe is an action drama. The movie revolves around a man named Soni Kapoor (Dharmendra), who falls in love with Mona (Hema Malini), and marries her. The circumstances force him to join the gang of smugglers who work under the cover of the Shipping Corporation. Years pass by, and he becomes the chief of the gang, but still keeps his wife in the dark about his real business. He eventually decides to mend his ways, and discontinue with smuggling. However, things take a turn for him as he was nabbed and diamonds are found in his house, and both Soni and Mona are arrested. This leaves Mona devastated and she refuses to be bailed out. Will Soni ever be able to win her trust back?
