Born as Amba Laxman Rao Sagun, the veteran actress Lalita Pawar started her career in Bollywood as a child artist at the age
of nine in the film Raja Harishchandra (1928). She has appeared in over 700 films in a career span of seven decades. She
appeared in lead roles in several silent-era films. However, an accident on the sets of the movie Jung-e-Azadi (1942) left her
with a defective left eye. She had to leave the lead roles after the accident and switch to character roles. She was best known
for playing a wicked or evil mother-in-law. Her best works include Shri 420 (1955), Mr. & Mrs. 55 (1955), Anari (1959), Junglee
(1961), Professor (1962), Suraj (1966), Ankhen (1968), Anand (1971), Sau Din Saas Ke (1980), etc.
